For scanning insurance cards, driver's licenses, etc. we use a small, USB based card scanner (shown below).  It is quiet, fast, rugged, and takes up almost no space. Instead of wasting time at your check-in counter photocopying drivers licenses and insurance cards that you will then have to file and retrieve, quickly scan them into EOB Express and then pull them up in a second anytime.
